West Virginia Women’s Basketball player quits hoops to pursue modeling career

(Daily Mail)–The big addition to the West Virginia University women’s basketball team this offseason has decided to give up the game to find something more her style. Forward Krystal Forthan, who transferred to the Mountaineers from LSU last month, told Coach Mike Carey she’s leaving WVU to become a model. “She told us that she did not want to go to school and she was wanting to get into the professional world of modeling,” Carey said. “She said she was not interested in going to school here.” Forthan signed with the Mountaineers, but never enrolled and won’t affect the team’s APR. Carey said he tried to talk Forthan into playing and parlaying success into popularity and then a modeling career. Forthan declined and deprives the Mountaineers of a regarded player. The 6-foot-4 Forthan was a McDonald’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-American in high school in 2011. That year ESPNU Hoop Gurlz ranked her No. 5 in her recruiting class. She averaged 5.7 points and 3.2 rebounds at LSU and started two of 28 games. Forthan was also named the SEC Freshman of the Week twice. Forthan needed to sit out next season because of the NCAA’s transfer rules and wouldn’t have been eligible until the 2013-14 season. WVU already has a 6-5 post player committed to the 2013 class. Hoop Gurlz ranks Lubirdia Gordon, from Mount Vernon, N.Y., ninth at her position.

So this story is from the Daily Mail which is a British paper.  When I first read that this girl was quitting school to become a “model” I honest to god thought for a second that maybe model means something different over there.  Kind of like how “fag” means one thing in the UK and something completely different in the US.  That’s not the case.  Model means the same thing in both countries.  Which means my opinion of the career counseling at West Virginia is to the shits.  Nobody wants to tell kid with a dream that it’s not possible, but God put some people on this planet to be models and Krystal honey…you ain’t one of them.  Look it, we all have certain gifts, but we can’t choose what they are.  I wanted to be a professional hockey player, but instead God made me a reality TV and smut expert.  Krystal, God made you into a 6’4″ man.  Use that talent. Coach Mike Carey telling her she could become well known as a basketball player and parlay that success into popularity and then a modeling career is flat-out irresponsible.  Honestly, that might be a fireable offense.  If I am recruiting against this guy I am looking that HS girl and her parents in the eye and telling her that if she signs with my program at least she will get the truth.  Mike Carey will just promise you the moon and blow smoke up your ass.  This girl might have killed two careers with one stone.

 

PS: What does this say about the WNBA?  Sounds like this girl was good enough to play pro basketball, but she passed for a failed attempt at modeling.  Basically saying that she would rather have smut bloggers tell her she ain’t no model than play in the WNBA.  Not good pub for the league…if it still exists.

People in Seattle still a little salty about the Sonics moving to OKC

 

I know exactly how these fans feel.  I grew up a Hartford Whalers fan and they played their last game in Hartford on my 11th birthday.  Just cried my eyes out as the Whale completely and utterly choked down the stretch and missed the playoffs.  All the needed was one effing point in their last 4 games. ONE!!! And they couldn’t do it.  They moved to North Carolina, rebranded themselves as the Hurricanes.  A few years later they were in the Stanley Cup Finals.  Shortly after that the Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup.  One of the worst days of my life.  It’s ok though. I am like totally 100% over it.  I mean it was 15 years ago and I am Blackhawks fan now.  I don’t have trust issues or fear of abandonment or hate my birthday or anything like that…

Irish Soccer Fans drive 8 hours to taunt the English team as they arrived at their hotel for Euro 2012

 

Alright Ireland, if I wasn’t 100% on board before I am now.  Any fan base that will drive 8 hours from Krakow to Gdansk just to call John Terry a racist and talk shit is pretty awesome in my book.  Couldn’t be more proud of my heritage right now.  I am all in with Ireland.  FAUGH A BALLAGH(Clear the way)!!!!

LOCK OF THE CENTURY: Heat vs Celtics Game 6

Miami Heat -2 at Boston Celtics

Is this a joke? Vegas gave an opening line of Celtics +1.5 immediately after Boston ripped Miami’s heart out and stomped on it.  I thought it was positively asinine, but somehow the line has moved to Celtics +2.  It just doesn’t make any sense.  The Heat are in complete shambles and Lebron quits when his team is down 3-2 100% of the time.  And that’s not an exaggeration.  Lebron is 0-4 all-time when down 3-2 in a series.  He has been eliminated by the Celtics twice already in his career.  The Heat piss their pants every time they set foot in the Garden.  Here is the thing that really has me scratching my head though…the Celtics played about as poorly as possible in Game 5.  I kept saying in the first half that the Celtics should be down like 20 points.  Pierce sucked, Rondo sucked, and Lebron and Wade both started strong.  The Celtics were playing rope-a-dope.  They took Miami’s best punch and still won.  Now they are back home and can smell a championship.  Killer instinct time.  No way the Celtics lose tonight.  None.  Miami is about to be destroyed. If they had any sense of honor at all Miami would forfeit this game because they know the refs handed them Game 2.  Let’s just end this charade.  Miami delenda est once and for all. DO IT CELTICS!!!

I guess this Transit of Venus thing happens once every thousand years or something.  Gotta love science.  Pretty sick video.  This is why NASA needs to be around.  #Penny4NASA is important.  I mean what would we do without NASA making YouTube videos like this?  How would we kill time throughout the day?  There are only so many original videos out there on the internet.  I’d probably be stuck watching more dumb skits like JeterMatch.com if it wasn’t for NASA.  PREACH NdT!!!

This is one of my biggest pet peeves about tennis and golf…why do people have to be completely quiet in order for athletes to function in that sport.  You know what is a hell of a lot harder to do than hit a bouncing tennis ball…basically anything else in sports.  Same thing for hitting a stationary golf ball.  I am sure baseball players would love complete silence as they are trying to his a baseball coming at them 100mph, but it’s not in the cards.  So Roger, you need to relax bro.  Be mentally tough enough to block out a guy yelling from 100 yards away.  If you wanted to play sports in front of a dead silent crowd then you should have played basketball for the Miami Heat.

Group aims to have permanent settlement on Mars by 2023

(Yahoo)–It sounds like a science-fiction fantasy, but the company Mars Onesays it’s for real—and that it will really establish a settlement on the planet Mars by 2023. The privately financed Dutch company has a plan. All it needs is a lot of cash, equipment and four Mars-bound astronauts who are willing to take a one-way trip to the red planet. The idea is to first send rovers, which will stake out a good site for a settlement and then build out living units. In 2022, the crew will take a “transit habitat” for the seven-month trip to Mars and settle in to their new home. The intention is that the crew will live on the planet for the rest of their lives. Every two years after that, another group will join the settlement to populate the colony. Mars One co-founder Bas Lansdorp has a very modern approach to funding the project: media exposure. “We will finance this mission by creating the biggest media event ever around it.” He said in a company video, adding, “Everybody in the world can see everything that will happen in the preparations and on Mars.” Think of it as a “Big Brother” for outer space. Lansdorp explained to Yahoo! News, “This would be ‘real’ reality TV — adventure is automatically included, we don’t have to add fake challenges.” He added, “By sending a new crew every two years, Mars will have a real, growing settlement of humans — who would not like to follow that major event in human history?” Who, indeed? The other-worldly idea has certainly intrigued the Web. The Mars One video has received over 232,000 views on YouTube since it launched less than a week ago.

 

Pretty ambitious effort.  I think this is exactly what Neil deGrasse Tyson was talking about, but honestly this is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.  Who in their right minds would agree to live on Mars for the rest of their lives?  I mean just look at that proposed colony…that thing effing sucks.  Talk about tight quarters.  I don’t even think I could stand up in one of those things.  You’ve got to have absolutely nothing going on Earth if you are willing to live out your days in a Martian trailer park.  No thanks.  I feel like these guys who want to colonize Mars are like the Vikings of explorers.  Just sailing across the North Atlantic and setting up shanty ass mud huts in Greenland.  The early settlers just froze their asses off in a uninhabitable wasteland until they died off or said “eff this noise, I am headed back to Sweden“.  Then a few hundred years later Christopher Columbus lands in a Caribbean tropical paradise.  So hey nut bags, congrats on being the first people with an outer space colony, but I think I will hold out for the Bahamas of planets.

 

PS: The video says they want to make a “Big Brother” style show out of this space colony…how amazing will that be?  I have never seen Big Brother, but from what I understand they just have a bunch of people that they film 24/7 like the Real World.  Wackos who want to live on Mars locked in a trailer park in the middle of nowhere…that’s going to have major drams.  That’ll for sure lead to the first ever live TV murder.  It’ll be like “Lord of The Flies” meets the “Real World” meets “Star Wars”.  DVR already set.
