Lock of the Century: NBA Finals Game 5 Edition

June 9, 2011 2 comments

Miami Heat +1 @ Dallas Mavericks -1

I’ll be the first to admit that my NBA Finals Locks of the Century haven’t been the greatest. Costa Rica is kicking my ass in this battle.  Taking Miami in every game has burned me.  Miami is really underachieving, Lebron in particular.  All of these losses are making me feel like the Gambling Gods are trying to punish me by picking and therefore, rooting(kind of) for the Heat.  Well jokes on you Gambling Gods. I’d gladly lose money everyday if it meant that the Heat would be denied a Championship.  So, having said that…give me the Heat.  Lebron is not going to be held to 8 points again.  He has been out-scored by the Boston Bruins 12-8 in the last three days.  No way that trend continues.  Even with Lebron struggling, the Heat have still been in every game.  I think Lebron takes over today and has a huge game.  Proving that he is more fueled by what other people say about him than by winning championships.  He really needs extra motivation?  Jordan would have dominated the Mavs in an empty gym in Siberia because all he cared about was winning.  Lebron takes games off in the middle of the NBA Finals.  Thats the only argument I need.

Over/Under Total Points 184

Every game has been in the 80s and I don’t anticipate that changing now.  The games have been slow, not a ton of possessions and both teams have been bringing in on the defensive end of the court.  88-84 Heat win tonight.  Taking the Heat on the moneyline at -105, Heat against the spread, and the under…which of course means the Mavs probably win a shootout, and I wouldn’t mind a bit.

Sweet Game Lebron

You’re so vain, you probably think this blog is about you
You’re so vain, I’ll bet you think this blog is about you
Don’t you? don’t you?

Where is Scottie Pippen now?  Lebron sucks.  I always knew it.  Even when I said he was great I also said he sucked.  He is who we thought he was.  In the biggest game of his life and with an opportunity to put a strangle hold on the NBA finals, Lebron James stat line for the night read as 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists.  Way to come through in the clutch “King James”, really Jordanesque.  Lebron couldn’t even shut down Jason Terry who had his best game of the series with 17 points.  Meanwhile, Dirk Nowitzki is just doing his thing.  Hitting game winners, fighting off the flu, and trying to save America from the Heat.

Lebron is a loser. Plain and simple.  The Heat should have swept the Mavericks, but Lebron making dumb decisions in game 2 and disappearing in game 4 is the reason why this series is knotted up at 2 games a piece.  I picked Miami in 5 as my lock of the century, but now that is out the window and I am free to root for America’s team.  The Havana Heat are dead to me.  Go Mavs.

Lock of the Century: NBA Finals Game 2 Prop Bets

June 2, 2011 Leave a comment

Well well well…looks like all I had to do was call the sportsbooks out and they publish their prop bets for Game 2 of the NBA Finals.  Big mistake, huge.  I am going to just tear into them again.  I already have the Miami Heat on the moneyline and I also have them covering the 4.5 point spread. Prop bets are low hanging fruit.  There are two ways to stop Costa Rica sportsbooks; the Eric Holder way or my way.  My way gets you paid.

3-point prop bet trifecta

I love all three of these 3 point shots made lines.  This is just stealing.  Both teams will employ their small lineup, both teams love the three, and they crushed this line in Game 1.  The line for Miami’s made 3pointers is laughable.  Lebron James was 4 of 5 by himself in the last game.  Dallas is playing zone the majority of the time to try to take away dribble penetration.  Miami will be shooting more three pointers than normal.  Eight isn’t nearly enough for Dallas either.  Give me all three of these.

Dirk Nowitzki Total Assists+Rebounds over/under 10.5

Dallas had better pray Dirk doesn’t come under this line.  If he does he is probably sick or dead or severely injured.  Dirk is becoming a better passer and Dallas has got to be preaching to each other to get aggressive on the glass after Miami controlled rebounding in Game 1.  Dirk is the leader of the team, and as the power-forward will be counted on to get more rebounds.  I also think that Dirk’s finger injury probably helps with this line. If he is limited offensively he will look to get others involved and contribute in other ways.

So that’s 6 total sports gambling Locks of the Century for Game 2 of the NBA Finals.  Miami on the moneyline, Miami on the spread, total threes over 14, Mavs 3s over 8, Heat 3s over 5.5, and Dirk Nowitzki to be over 10.5 combined rebounds+assists.  That’s some easy money.  Enjoy the game…GET THAT PAPER.  STRAIGHT CASH HOMIE

Lock of the Century: NBA Finals Game 2

Dallas +180 @ Miami -220

Dallas +4.5 @ Miami -4.5

Costa Rica is in shambles after I demolished them in Game 1. Going 4-0-1 in various bets.  They are so scared that they haven’t even posted prop bets for this one knowing full well that I will rob them blind again.  Game 2 will play out just like Game 1 did. Relatively close for 80% of the game, and then Miami’s talent will just take over in the 4th.  Miami will not only win, but they will also cover the spread.  Dallas just doesn’t have the horses to win a game on the road.

Dallas Mavericks +4.5 @ Miami Heat -4.5

Dallas Mavericks +170 @ Miami Heat -200

This game and this series is another example of my gift being my curse.  I hate Miami.  I want them to lose.  However, there is no way Dallas can win this series.  They don’t play good enough defense to stop Miami’s Big 3.  I think Dwayne Wade in particular will have a great series.  I am sure Dallas will try and run several different players at him, but he presents huge match up problems for all of Dallas’ guards.  Give me Miami -4.5.  The money line isn’t all that attractive at -200, but a win is a win is a win.

For the first time in the history of Locks of the Century I am bringing out prop bet picks.  NBA season is almost over, but my quest to take down Costa Rica has only just begun.  There are two prop bets that are low hanging fruit.

Total 3pointers made in the game is at 13.5.  Dallas loves to jack up threes and they have several players that shoot a high percentage.  Miami will also be able to use their small lineup a lot in this series which means more minutes and touches for James Jones who is an ace from the outside.  I am taking the over.  I’d like this bet at 15.

The other prop bet is a total assists+rebounds for Lebron James and the line is 14.  Umm…yes please! Lebron James is on another planet right now.  Scottie Pippen thinks he is better than Michael Jordan.  Lebron will be counted on to get more rebounds in this series because Miami will most likely use their small lineup often in this series.  He is also the best passing forward in the league today, and probably the second best ever behind Larry Bird.  Lebron James could approach this line of 14 by halftime.

So there you have it, Citizens.  Four bets…four winners.  Dallas may not get swept, but Costa Rica sure will.  The entire country will be mine in no time.  Hey…how about one more just to prove a point…take the under on total points.

Lock of the Century: NBA Exact Series Pick

Miami Heat-4 Dallas Mavericks-1 +700

Miami has won every single series in 5 games and I think that trend continues in the NBA Finals.  Of all the prices available, this seems like the best bet.  Dallas probably gets one game at home in a game where Dirk shoots the lights out, but that’s it.  Miami has the advantage at basically every position on the floor.  I hate making this pick on Memorial Day because it feels very un-American to have the Heat win the NBA championship, but I am here to pick winners.  The only thing less American than the Heat winning a title, is me losing my battle against Costa Rica. Sometimes, in war, you do things that you aren’t proud of…this is one of those moments.   Great run to the finals by Dallas, but unfortunately Miami and their fake fans will get to celebrate again.  Miami in 5 Games.

Why Gambling is Great

May 26, 2011 1 comment

The Dallas Mavericks vs Oklahoma City Thunder is exhibit A for the reason why I gamble.  I got in on this game at Dallas -5.5 because I bought a point off of the original Dallas -6.5 line.  With Dallas up 4 points in the final seconds of the game and OKC launching desperation three pointers, only gamblers were on the edge of their seats.  I was praying for a Dallas rebound and a OKC foul…not the case.  Terry comes up with a loose ball and runs down for an emphatic slam.  I was on fire.  I COULD NOT LOSE.  Last second meaningless dunks to cover at the end the game?  Are you kidding me? God is clearly on my side.  Then the score keeper took it off the board and my heart got ripped out temple of doom style.  I was thinking that this was a conspiracy of the highest degree.  ESPN showed 0.3 on the clock when the ball went through.  Beyondthebets.com really cleared this up for me so I’ll be able to sleep tonight.  I lost fair and square.  Still went 2-1 last night with the Lightning and the Mavericks on the moneyline.  Suck it Costa Rica.

Miami winning it all -215

This is basically stealing, but all is fair in love and war…and I am at war with book makers of Costa Rica.

Miami is without a doubt winning the championship.  Odds are that they would have a rematch with Dallas.  Dallas is a fun team to watch, but they do not matchup favorably with the Miami Heat.  Miami loves to play small and Dallas will allow them to do just that.

Going small gives Miami a huge edge even though that has traditionally been Dallas’s strength. I think Lebron will end up locking down Dirk.  Lebron is so strong and athletic that he will be able to push Dirk off of his spots.  His leaping ability and explosiveness will allow him to contest all of Dirk’s jumpers.

Dwayne Wade will explode in this series.  Miami simply doesn’t have a guy who can match up with him. Jason Terry is a liability, Kidd isn’t the on-ball defender he was a decade ago when he played in the NBA Finals for the Nets, and DeShawn Stevenson just flat-out sucks. Who wears number 92?  That’s just annoying.

Heat win this series in 5, no more than 6 games.  Dirk may just steal one game, but over the course of the series his legs will wear out as Lebron will force him to work for every shot.  It’s not a very attractive line at -225, but a win is a win is a win.

Oklahoma City +6.5 @ Dallas -6.5

Oklahoma City +250 @ Dallas -300

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!?! What’s going on people?  Where is the adulation? Where are the girls throwing themselves at me?  I mean come on, who wouldn’t want to be the first ladies of Costa Rica?  I am on another hot streak and I am just bankrupting their entire economy. It’s only a matter of time before I own the whole country.  Costa Rica is as dead as Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma City is just too immature to beat a veteran team like the Dallas Mavericks.  There has been so much drama from OKC.  The star point guard Russell Westbrook gets benched for being a turnover machine, they have an epic collapse to blow game 4, and now they are having to deal with all of these tornadoes.  It’s just too much to handle.  OKC was playing with house money and their best days are ahead of them.  Chalk it up as a learning experience, come back stronger next year.

The moneyline isn’t very attractive here, but a win is a win is a win.  Take it the moneyline for sure.  I also think Dallas will cover the 6.5 point spread.

This could be you ladies…
